The DC region is on pace for its driest year in nearly 25 years, according to the National Weather Service, as worsening conditions along the Potomac River have triggered a Drought Watch affecting customers across Maryland and Virginia.
So far in 2026, just 16.65 inches of precipitation have been reported in Washington, compared to 23.31 inches at the same point in 2002, the last year conditions were this dry, according to DC Water.
